Since its launch, the all-electric Ford E-Transit has faced little competition – though that’s set to change soon – and as such, has maintained its position atop the sales charts in that burgeoning segment. A host of commercial entities have placed orders for the EV van in recent months, including CalVans, Meals on Wheels, USPS, New York City, and DHL, to name just a few. Now, that same latter delivery company is once again expanding its Ford E-Transit fleet – this time in Ireland – with an additional purchase of 44 all-electric vans.
DHL Express Ireland plans to replace 44 diesel-powered vans with these new E-Transit models in its pick-up and delivery (PUD) fleet, all of which is being done to expand the company’s goal of slashing emissions and becoming more sustainable. DHL notes that the move will ultimately eliminate 229 tons of CO2 emissions, in fact, and helps it get one step closer to converting its entire commercial delivery fleet to electric vehicles
In addition to buying this batch of vans, DHL is also working on ramping up its EV charging infrastructure at the company’s four main service centers across Ireland, which involves an investment of €4.3 million ($4.6 million USD). DHL plans to spend another €4 million ($4.28 million USD) in this area over the coming months, and will also offer EV charging at some of its parking spaces across the country, too.
“DHL Express Ireland is committed to a greener, ultimately emission-free future,” said Mike Farrell, National Operations Director at DHL Express Ireland. “Our decision to transition from diesel to electric vehicles underscores our dedication to sustainability and aligns with our broader DHL Group mission of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. As part of this journey, the DHL Group has committed to invest €7 billion through to 2030 in clean operations to reduce logistics-related greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.”
