Ford F-150 Lightning To Gain Apple Maps EV Routing Feature

The Ford F-150 Lightning has been on a bit of a roller coaster ride since its launch for the 2022 model year, debuting to extreme demand and short supply, which made the EV pickup a pricey, coveted target for many. However, in recent months, demand has plummeted along with the price of the Ford F-150 Lightning, all while The Blue Oval has significantly ramped up production, reopened order banks, and began offering incentives. Now, the Ford F-150 Lightning is set to gain a nifty new feature that may come in handy for select customers – Apple Maps EV Routing, according to a recent dealer bulletin seen by CarsDirect.

The Apple Maps EV Routing feature helps users locate EV charging stations, even planning out entire trips while adding charging stops along the way. The feature goes so far as to account for elevation changes and their effect on range, as well as various other factors that might impact how far one can drive on a charge.

Once users enter their desired route in the navigation via Apple Maps, EV Routing estimates the state of charge one will have when they reach that designation, and if it it’s too far to make it without stopping, it will then suggest the most efficient charging stops along that route. Currently, this feature is only available in a small number of EVs, but the forthcoming iOS 17 is expected to debut real-time EV charger availability, too.
