Up front, the Explorer experienced a 23 percent slide, but dominated the space with 46,362 sales. The Escape followed with 43,690 sales, up 29 percent; the Bronco Sport came next with a 13 percent increase to 33,272 sales, and the Edge sold 26,202 units, up five percent.
Combined Ford crossover and SUV sales represent a decrease of four percent, selling 205,175 units in Q2 2023.
The Ford Authority Take
Things are looking up in terms of Ford SUV sales, although it’s worth noting that supply chain issues haven’t completely been resolved. While this helped ensure that those who have been waiting on the Bronco finally get their ponies, it’s likely that the restricted sales contributed to the Bronco’s numbers being in the red during Q2 2023. Order banks for the 2024 Bronco opened up in mid-August, giving Bronco enthusiasts another opportunity to secure their very own rugged pony.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Expedition experienced a massive upswing in sales, indicating that FoMoCo has found a way to navigate challenging supply chain issues that have made it difficult for the automaker to build enough vehicles to satisfy demand. This is particularly interesting, considering that the 2023 Expedition doesn’t feature any major changes or updates, other than feature deletions. Subsequently, the 2024 Ford Expedition only features minor changes over its 2023 model year counterpart, but it does gain the optional Excursion Package.
However, looking ahead, the 2025 Ford Expedition will likely be heavily updated, as evidenced by a prototype undergoing testing back in May. The forthcoming model will feature redesigned taillights, a set of 24-inch wheels, and an overhauled interior, as exemplified by several prototypes spotted by Ford Authority.

OMG, are you serious? So the article a few days ago said Ford crossovers are down 6%. Now this says Ford SUV sales are up 4%. We’ve gotten to the point where they are breaking down the sales between one form of SUV vs. another form of SUV?
Overall result of the stories is that Ford SUV/CUV’s are down a combined 2%. Got it. Now start making some cars.
