Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a convertible work station that could be used in future Ford trucks, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on February 17th, 2022, published on August 17th, 2023, and assigned serial number 0256887.
The Ford Authority Take
In recent weeks, Ford has filed a bevy of patents that seemingly aim to reinvent the pickup bed, including filings for an extendable bed floor and side walls, a lift assembly, an extendable cargo bed side wall, an extendable rail assembly, and a side wall storage compartment. Now, this newly filed patent keeps that trend going by introducing an idea for a convertible work station that could be used in future Ford trucks, too.
Much like the side wall storage compartment patent, this filing explores yet another way to store things like tools and other valuables that would keep them out of sight and the reach of prying eyes, much like the existing RamBox Cargo Management System that’s already available on the Ram 1500. In this case, future Ford pickup owners could stash their goods inside a special panel that’s located inside the bed and is accessible from the outside.
What makes this idea unique, however, is that it features a “convertible” aspect – or rather, a power outlet that can actually swivel around so that it can be accessed not only from inside the pickup bed, but outside as well, via the aforementioned storage compartment. This could be quite convenient for a number of reasons, including times when the bed is loaded up with items, or perhaps just covered up by a tonneau cover.
If it comes to fruition, this convertible work station would certainly prove to be quite useful for those that work in places like the construction industry, when portable power and tools are not only potentially helpful, but also oftentimes required to complete tasks. As such, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it show up in future Ford trucks one day.

Ford can’t even build super dutys ordered 10 months ago, much less add new features. I had to defect and could not wait any longer and bought a 2024 High country, didn’t want to but had too, its a nice truck
Finally a Furd boy who has seen the light.
Not sure why everyone is having so much trouble getting their ’23 Super Duty, I had to wait 6 months to get mine after I ordered it. I have to wonder if part of the problem is with your dealership, I know I wouldn’t order anything through my local dealership since they can’t even seam to get parts for older Fords. Like the dealership I ordered from so much better!
