Over the past several months, Ford Authority has spotted a host of refreshed Ford Explorer models out being evaluated, many of them devoid of any sort of camouflage whatsoever. As such, we know a lot about the revised crossover, which was originally slated to launch for the 2024 model year. However, as Ford Authority reported last week, the refreshed Ford Explorer was recently pushed back to the 2025 model year, meaning we’ll have to wait a bit longer for its debut. In the meantime, Ford Authority has spotted yet another refreshed Explorer out testing – this time, one towing a trailer.
This particular refreshed Ford Explorer is an ST-Line trimmed model, which gives customers all of the same sporty styling cues present on the ST, but without the extra power and performance upgrades. As was previously the case, there’s no camo covering this crossover’s flanks, giving us a good look at its new headlight design, a new front grille, and a revised lower fascia.
Aside from a new wheel design, the sides of this refreshed Ford Explorer remain largely unchanged, which is common for mid-cycle actions such as this one. Interestingly, we can see that the trailer being towed by this prototype is unladen and devoid of any sort of cargo, so it could potentially be testing something like the camera system, trailer brake controller, or something similar.
From the rear, we get yet another good look at the Explorer’s new liftgate design, along with new taillights that are connected visually with a horizontal strip that contains LED signature lighting. It’s a similar look present on the also-recently-refreshed Chinese version of the Explorer.
In addition to these changes, a new Active trim will be added to the Explorer lineup, which may replace the XLT. The high-performance ST will continue to be offered, however. Inside the cabin, the refreshed Explorer is set to receive a host of updates as well, which include a larger, standard touchscreen, as well as a revised center stack and dashboard.
We’ll have more on the 2025 Ford Explorer soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for the latest Ford Explorer news and comprehensive Ford news updates.

Sooo gmc and ford trading design languages as recent ? This front end oddly reminds me of the Acadia
Hardly. Ford always has better exterior design. Though Caddy is killing it lately! Hard to beat an Explorer ST.
Who cares??
This is as riveting as another story I read about a duck that swims in water. What’s next: “Spy shots show refreshed Explorer sporting things like headlights and wheels”
Right on!!
Your in the wrong place then buddy! This is a Ford Motor forum. I’m looking at getting a new Explorer! This helps me decide on a ’23 or ’24 model etc.
I think the front looks much better, although I’m not a fan of the new rear-end with the added horizontal elements, makes the rear look more like a minivan. Explorer is still a rare one in this class with those aggressive RWD proportions, looks so much better than most, they just need to get the details right.
Ford explorer looks very bland blend bland where’s the Chrome it could stay on a lot as far as I’m concerned
Facts bro. The Explorer and the Expedition look so outdated the should come out with a Hot Tub Tine Machine Edition.
LOL. Both look 10× better than any the japo offerings! GM is ok. Hard to beat Ford all around. Expedition sales are up insanely this yr. Was just refreshed. I would get one if needed large SUV. I don’t. I always drive Ford SUVs though. 👍🏻
You haven’t driven a new Gen i take it. Amazing SUVs. Looks terrific. Drives terrific. Best powertrain choices in its class! Popular for very good reason.
Dont like the grille….or the brake dust wheels…..and when you go to a Ford dealership….dont they offer a interior…that not black…..as far as looking dated…these do look fresher that F150..the doors would fit a 2013 i think
Ford been using ceramic type brake pads for 10yrs now on new vehicles. Not sure your observations here. Dirty wheels? It’s a pre-production vehicle.
Ford used to make a new and a obvious changed look on these things every two generations. Now this new version is just a 2016-2019 homework but changed up the small details. Ford has lost its touch since 2011.
That’s why they have pretty much best vehicles in EVERY class currently!? They don’t play in the boring, low selling econo car /sedan marketplace. Lots trolling here. I guess If i worked for a competitor in some capacity i would be watching the market leader too.
Your trolling i take it. Explorer & Expedition sales are way up.. for good reason. You don’t mess much w/ success. Both look great but more importantly drive excellent! Best powertrains in there classes. Best technology as well.
Honestly these pics make the new front end look a little better. The taillights I think are the same, just with those.little extension pieces on the tailgate.
Ford needs to hurry up and launch this damn thing. I suspect their stop sales due to the cameras is why they haven’t yet…
