While the Ford Police Interceptor Utility remains the most popular law enforcement vehicle on the planet, the Ford F-150 Police Responder offers those same agencies a more utilitarian, off-road capable vehicle to chase bad people in, too. After its reveal back in 2017, an updated version of the Ford F-150 Police Responder debuted alongside the redesigned civilian pickup in 2021, powered by the twin turbocharged Ford 3.5L V6 EcoBoost generating 400 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque, along with a host of other unique features, making it more capable than its predecessor and its competition. Thus, it’s no surprise that departments continue to flock toward the Ford F-150 Police Responder, including the town of Cornelius, North Carolina, which just ordered five of those pickups, according to Cornelius Today.
This order was officially approved by the town board this week, and will cost a total of $279,668.97. Cornelius Police submitted a bid for the new pickups and wound up making a deal with Duval Ford of Jacksonville, Florida with an average cost of $47,000 per vehicle – which fits within the department’s budget.
When the trucks arrive in October as expected, Cornelius Police will upfit each for law enforcement duty, adding the requisite lighting, a center console, and sirens, which will reportedly cost an extra $7,538 per vehicle – for four of the five trucks, at least. The fifth truck will be outfitted for K-9 duty, meaning that it needs extra equipment that will cost a total of $12,254.10 to purchase and install.
From the factory, the F-150 Police Responder comes equipped with an array of equipment including the FX4 Off-Road Package, a torque-on-demand transfer case that includes a 4WD Auto mode with an electrically actuated clutch that automatically adjusts torque as needed, recalibrated tuning for the 10-speed automatic transmission, and specially-developed Goodyear LT265/70R18 LRC BSW Wrangler Enforcer all-terrain tires.

So they bought out of state? I wonder how the dealer in NC who holds the state contract feels about that. I thought Ford was cracking down on that.
