1992 Mercury Capri Turbo With Just 24K Miles Up For Auction

In recent years, we’ve seen several later model Mercury Capri drop tops go up for grabs in various collector car auctions, including a unique example done up in Toy Story livery, a nice 44k-mile 1993 model, a 1993 Capri with 64k miles on the clock, and a stellar 26k-mile example. Now, those seeking one of these cool little convertibles have another low-mile gem to bid on, as this 1992 Mercury Capri Turbo with just 24k miles showing on the odometer has surfaced for sale at Bring a Trailer.

1992 Mercury Capri Turbo With 24K Miles - Exterior 002 - Rear Three Quarters

This 1992 Mercury Capri Turbo remained in the possession of its original owner until 2022, at which point it was sold on BaT. Now, after putting around 1,000 miles on the clock, the Cardinal Red drop top is up for grabs yet again, still looking no worse for wear. The car did apparently suffer some damage to the right front corner last year, and there are some typical scratches and other imperfections here and there, as one would expect.

Otherwise, the seller has added new tires and replaced the soft top rear window, keeping it in solid driving shape. As an XR2 Turbo model, this Capri came with a performance-tuned fully independent suspension, which works in tandem with four-wheel disc brakes to provide a bit more performance, which is aided by its turbocharged and intercooled 1.6L inline-four that was factory rated at 132 horsepower and 136 pound-feet of torque, flowing to the wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.

Inside the cabin, one will find a standard gray cloth interior with buckets up front and a tiny fold-down rear seat suitable for young passengers, plus amenities like driver’s seat lumbar support, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows, a lockable glove box, and an AM/FM cassette stereo with an 80-watt amplifier and four speakers. While it certainly isn’t perfect, this 1992 Mercury Capri Turbo isn’t something that we see every day – making it a pretty cool find for those in the market for a fun, affordable, and unique convertible.
