In recent years, we’ve seen a number of later model Mercury Capri drop tops go up for grabs in various collector car auctions, including a unique example done up in Toy Story livery, a nice 44k-mile 1993 model, and another 1993 Capri with 64k miles on the clock. Now, those seeking one of these cool little convertibles have another stellar example to bid on, as this 1993 Mercury Capri with just 26k miles showing on the odometer has surfaced for sale at Bring a Trailer.
This particular 1993 Mercury Capri was a true one-owner car until it was acquired by the seller this past August, and now it’s looking for a new home, where it will hopefully be cared for the same way it has been over the past 30 years. Finished in Cardinal Red, there aren’t many flaws to note – as one would expect – as this ultra-sanitary Capri looks like it could have just rolled off the production line and into a dealership.
That’s also true of the interior, which is covered in a sea of gray with cloth bucket front seats and a folding rear piece for tiny passengers, though there are some welcome amenities like a leather-wrapped steering wheel, power windows and mirrors, cruise control, and a cassette stereo.
Power for this small but fun drop top comes from the naturally-aspirated 1.6L B6D I-4, which features dual overhead camshafts and four valves per cylinder, along with a paltry output of 100 horsepower and 95 pound-feet of torque. That power flows to the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission, while stabilizer bars in the front and rear help handling and four-wheel disc brakes handle stopping duties. It remains to be seen if someone is willing to dish out big money for this stellar example of a pretty cool footnote in Blue Oval history, but we’ll know for sure in a few days.
