Fans of the Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable have certainly had their fair share of nice examples to bid on lately, including a stellar 2004 Taurus SEL with less than 20k miles, as well as a 2004 Sable LS Premium Wagon with 37k miles and a 29k-mile 2005 Sable LS wagon that raked in big money when the hammer fell. Now, those in the market for such a machine have yet another fine example to bid on – this 2004 Ford Taurus wagon with just 40k miles on the clock, which is currently up for grabs at Bring a Trailer.
This 2004 Ford Taurus bounced around a bit between Illinois and Arizona before it was acquired by the selling dealer, but it certainly hasn’t been driven much over the past two decades or so, given the low mileage total. That figure is also well-represented by the wagon’s stellar condition, which includes nearly flawless red paint, save for a few blemishes and a dent in the tailgate, which are to be expected. However, the seller also notes that this Taurus has had its rear bumper cover repainted, and that it suffered some damage to the front left side earlier this year.
The beige leather interior present in this Ford Taurus is arguably in even better condition than the exterior, and it’s equipped with plenty of amenities including adjustable pedals, automatic climate control, power windows, locks, and mirrors, a factory cassette stereo with a remote CD changer, and a rear-facing third-row seat in the cargo area, to boot.
Power for this rounded family hauler comes from the naturally-aspirated 3.0 V6 DOHC Duratec engine touting 24 valves that was factory-rated to produce 201 horsepower and 207 pound-feet of torque, which flows to the front wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. At this point, it’s hard to say what this nicely-kept Taurus will ultimately sell for, but given the aforementioned recent auction results for similar models, we wouldn’t expect it to go for cheap.

The low water mark from the “rolling dumpling” era of Ford design
Junk then, junk now. 2002-2010 were pro the worst years for Ford. I know I was a shop foreman at one. I can’t go into how many issues these things had. I owned a 2004 Taurus 3.0 2 valve. It never ran right!
