2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse: Live Photo Gallery

Along with the debut of the S650-generation 2024 Ford Mustang back in September 2022 came the reveal of a new range-topping variant – the Dark Horse – which is more than just a more muscular offering for pony car fans. In fact, multiple Dark Horse variants will compete in a variety of different motorsports series in the coming years, including NASCAR. In the meantime, the road-going 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse has beaten a wide array of its competitors in recent comparison tests, including the BMW M2, Lotus Emira, Toyota GR Supra, and its more traditional foes – the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger. Recently, Ford Authority was able to take a closer look at the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse as well, this time at the 2023 Detroit Auto Show.

There, this 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse was on display wearing the rather stunning color called Dark Ember Metallic, which is exclusive to that model and shows off different hues depending on the lighting one views it in, as well as the angle. It’s accompanied by a number of unique styling cues, which start up front with a shadow graphic that surrounds the darkened LED headlamps, a unique gloss black grille with trapezoidal nostrils, and a specific lower front bumper with high gloss “fangs.”

Moving down the side, we get a good look at the Dark Horse’s lower side skirts and badging, along with model-specific wheels, leading to the rear and additional elements that include a fixed rear wing, a new racing-inspired diffuser, and darkened quad exhaust tips. Inside the cabin, the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse features more unique items such as Blue Indigo accents, a thicker, flat-bottomed steering wheel, Black Alley trim, and in manual transmission models, a special titanium shift knob.

The real meat in the Dark Horse lies underneath the skin, however, as the car’s 5.0L V8 Coyote engine has received a host of upgrades that results in an output of 500 horsepower and 418 pound-feet of torque, routed to the rear wheels via a six-speed Tremec transmission or Ford’s 10-speed automatic. Paired with the optional Handling Package and its Pirelli Trofeo tires, the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse has proven to be not only a visually intimidating machine, but also a pretty darn capable one on the track, too.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
