2024 Ford Trends Report Finds Global Populace Trying To Cope

Each year, the Looking Further with Ford Trends Report takes a deeper look at the intentional decisions consumers are taking to shape their lives by compiling the results of a global survey conducted across 16 countries. Over the past few years, this report has found that consumers were quite occupied by the pandemic and their future, economic fallout and political polarization, and both national and global instability, as well as personal finances. Now the 2024 Ford Trends report has been released, and it found that people have shifted their focus more toward the future, rather than looking back at the past.

There are many fascinating findings present in the latest version of the Ford Trends report, and reason for optimism as well. Across the entire globe, 66 percent of survey participants agreed with the statement “I feel more in control of my life than I did five years ago,” and 65 percent with the statement “I feel mentally prepared for what the future might bring.”

Meanwhile, eight in 10 people surveyed have come to recognize the importance of finding inner peace in an uncertain world, and half of the global workforce said they would accept a 20 percent pay cut in favor of prioritizing their quality of life. At the same time, many remain wary of the impact that artificial intelligence will have on their lives in future years, as eight in 10 people believe that companies should openly disclose their use of AI in a plea for transparency. In terms of family life, two-thirds of respondents acknowledged the stability offered by traditional family roles, but they equally advocate for societal support for non-traditional family dynamics as well.

“A shift is happening. In an uncertain and transforming world, people are reclaiming control,” said Jen Brace, Chief Futurist of Ford’s Global Trends + Futuring Team. “Today, there’s a prevailing trend toward making intentional choices. 77 percent of adults globally agree with the statement, ‘prioritizing myself gives me a sense of stability in a world that feels unpredictable.’ As society prepares for an AI-driven future, people are hopeful that it may take some of the burden off their shoulders, allowing them to focus on more fulfilling endeavors. By making deliberate decisions in their relationships, careers, and personal growth, they’re striving for lives filled with purpose and satisfaction. In this process, people not only welcome the possibilities of the future but also inspire others to embark on their own meaningful journeys, one intentional step at a time.”

Weary or Wary? At the same time, many remain weary (SIC) of the impact that artificial intelligence will have on their lives in future years, as eight in 10 people believe that companies should openly disclose their use of AI in a plea for transparency.
