Following the debut of the all-new S650 generation 2024 Ford Mustang, The Blue Oval announced that it would be embarking on a major motorsports push with the new pony car as its centerpiece – or, specifically, the range-topping Mustang Dark Horse. Thus far, that has come true with the debuts of the new Mustang GT3 and GT4, as well as the Dark Horse S and R, each of which is destined to compete in its own motorsports series. Now, The Blue Oval has officially revealed the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Mustang Dark Horse, adding yet another new race car to that growing lineup and replacing the fairly new next-gen NASCAR pony car at the same time.
Ford hasn’t yet revealed any details about the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series Mustang Dark Horse outside of these photos, but it’s clear that the new racer adopts the S650 Dark Horse model’s looks, at least. The automaker also shared that the new model will make its racing debut at the Clash at the Coliseum exhibition race at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on February 4th, 2024.
The Ford Mustang has certainly enjoyed its fair share of success on the NASCAR circuit since it began competing there full-time back in 2011, producing two consecutive championships right off the bat and winning either a driver’s or owner’s championship in nine out of the past 12 seasons, along with manufacturer’s titles in 2011 and 2013 – meaning that expectations are high for the new Dark Horse model.
“What a crazy year it has been revealing our new global Mustangs for racing. The positive response from our fans around the world has been amazing, and we’re confident that this Mustang Dark Horse Cup car will be no different and that NASCAR fans will be excited to cheer us on next year,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports. “Our Ford Performance staff, together with our NASCAR race teams, have worked tirelessly in the wind tunnel developing this car, and I can’t wait to finally see it race on the track next season.”
