After being treated to a refresh for the 2022 model year, the Ford Expedition is slated to receive more updates for 2025, as Ford Authority has reported over the past several months. Those include the addition of hybrid powertrains to the lineup, as well as revised exterior and interior styling. In the meantime, Ford’s cross-town rival General Motors has launched its own bevy of updated models recently – a list that includes the 2024 Chevy Trailblazer and 2024 Chevy Traverse – and now, that list has expanded to include the refreshed 2025 Chevy Suburban, too.
Fresh off a total redesign for the 2021 model year, the 2025 Chevy Suburban is a direct rival for the Ford Expedition Max as a longer wheelbase model with more rear cargo space than the Tahoe. For the new model year, GM’s full-size SUVs get updated styling with bolder signature lighting elements and animations, a new front fascia, and unique design cues to differentiate between the various trim levels that include LS, LT, RST, Z71, Premier, and High Country. Additionally, RST and High Country customers can opt for 24-inch wheel designs for the very first time, while two new exterior colors have been added as well – Cypress Gray and Lakeshore Blue Metallic.
Inside the cabin, the 2025 Chevy Suburban has received some updates as well, which include a lower instrument panel placement and more sweeping lines, new steering wheel and revised center console designs, and unique adornments for each trim level. The refreshed SUV also comes with an all-new standard 17.7-inch-diagonal infotainment screen and an 11-inch driver information center. Underneath, GM has tweaked the Suburban’s multilink independent rear suspension to improve both ride and handling.
In terms of powertrains, the 2025 Suburban soldiers on with the 5.3L V8 as the standard choice for LS, LT, RST, Z71, and Premier trims, while the larger 6.2L V8 is standard on the High Country and optional on the RST, Z71, and Premier. GM has also added the second-generation version of its 3.0L I-6 Duramax diesel for all trims, which generates more power than its predecessor with ratings of 305
horsepower and 495 pound-feet of torque – however, that particular powerplant won’t be available until later in 2025. As for the rest of the lineup, it’s slated to launch in late 2024, though pricing has yet to be announced.

GM has long dominated the mainstream full-size SUV segment in the U.S., a trend that continued through the first nine months of 2023. Currently, the Tahoe holds a 28 percent share of this segment – compared to 19 percent for the Expedition and 14 percent for the Suburban – though it is worthing noting that compared to the same time period last year, the Tahoe has surrendered two percent share to the Expedition, at least, while the Suburban has stayed steady.
