Though there aren’t too many certainties in life, one thing we can count on is the fact that pretty much any Ford GT is going to sell for big money any time one crosses the auction block. This is particularly true of celebrity-owned cars, and in that regard, Olympic gold medalist, two-time heavyweight champ, and purveyor of the “George Foreman Grill” – George Foreman himself – has a little something special to offer his fans courtesy of the “George Foreman Collection” sale hosted by Hagerty. There are quite a few cool and notable rides here for Blue Oval enthusiasts – including a super-low-mile 1995 Saleen Mustang – as well as this barely used 2005 Ford GT.
This particular 2005 Ford GT is one of 50 of Foreman’s personal rides that are currently up for grabs as part of this online auction, but it has already garnered tremendous interest with eight bids and a high bid of $304,000 as of this writing with 30 days to go. Foreman acquired the sports car when it was brand new and has owned it ever since, though with just 792 miles on the clock, he certainly hasn’t driven it much over that time frame.
As such, this Mark IV Red beauty remains in like-new condition and is well-equipped with options including lightweight forged BBS wheels, Gunmetal Gray brake calipers, white over-the-top painted stripes, and the McIntosh digital sound system. There are a few flaws worth noting, including a small paint chip and scratch, along with a little bit of oxidation here and there.
Regardless, it isn’t often that we come across GTs of this generation with this sort of mileage, let alone such a special ownership history. Having sat in long-term storage for years now, we imagine that it will take a little bit of work to ensure that this 2005 Ford GT is truly road-worthy, but given everything it has going for it, that should certainly be worth the effort.
