Ford F-150 Avalanche Officially Debuts In China

Amid flagging sales, Ford is in the midst of changing up its strategy in China to focus more on off-road pickups and SUVs, even building special storefronts called “Ford Beyond” to market those products. Along with the soon-to-be available Ford Bronco and Ford Ranger, the third-generation Ford F-150 Raptor launched in the Chinese market last year, and owners are even able to take advantage of the special Ford F-150 Raptor Off-Road Academy that teaches them how to drive their new pickups on all sorts of surfaces. Now, China is also getting its own special variant of the high-performance pickup called the Ford F-150 Avalanche.

The new Ford F-150 Avalanche made its debut at the recent Guangzhou International Automobile Exhibition (Guangzhou Auto Show, or GZAS), just as the automaker announced that sales of its rugged pickup increased by 2.4 times year-over-year. It’s perfectly timed given the arrival of winter, as the F-150 Avalanche is finished in that same color, which evokes scenes of snow and ice-covered mountain peaks.

Aside from its exterior hue, the F-150 Avalanche is also equipped with unique graphics, special all-terrain tires that Ford says improve traction in snow and ice by 19 percent, an expandable tailgate and new metal loops designed to accommodate snowboards and similar equipment, a soft tonneau cover, heated seats, and a heated steering wheel as standard equipment.
