The Ford Authority Take
Over the past few years, Ford continues to implement robotics into its operations more and more, using them to retool plants, develop safety technology features, and help workers with mobility limitations. The automaker has also filed patents for ideas such as last mile travel routes for robots and a fleet inspection and maintenance robot as it seeks to continue to utilize robots in new and interesting ways moving forward. Now, this newly filed Ford patent for a multi-use mobile robot keeps that trend going, albeit in a slightly different direction.
This multi-use robot could be utilized in a variety of ways, and for a number of purposes. It’s quite a versatile platform, one that could be used to transport either people or cargo thanks to its modular nature, which is designed to hold all sorts of storage devices such as trays, drawers, and other elements. As such, the robots could be used to transport a person around a designated area, or even deliver packages, as the robot is shown being lifted up into a delivery truck, too.
The possibilities here are seemingly endless, as this Ford patent even points out that the robot could be controlled by a person riding in it, behind it, or even autonomously, moving those things around a warehouse or via a last mile delivery service. As such, it’s certainly easy to see this particular Ford patent coming to life, and making the humble robot a bit more versatile for businesses looking to ramp up their productivity.
