Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a new kind of vehicle lighting system and lighting method that could be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on May 2nd, 2022, published on November 2nd, 2023, and assigned serial number 0347813.
The Ford Authority Take
In recent months, Ford has filed patents for adaptive puddle lights, a detachable lighting assembly, a roof-mounted lighting assembly, dimmable external lighting, and a pillar-mounted lighting assembly. Now, that trend continues with this new patent filing for a new kind of vehicle lighting system and lighting method that could be used in future Ford vehicles, too.
This new lighting system proposes adding that type of element to a vehicle’s hood and fender area, or more specifically, the space in between the two. The lighting element would run along with upper edge of the fender, seemingly taking up very little space while also providing a pretty cool signature when it’s illuminated, too.
This type of lighting could serve multiple purposes, whether that be as actual headlights or simply signature lighting, turn signals, or just about anything else one can imagine. In recent years, Ford – and pretty much every other automotive manufacturer out there – has been increasingly incorporating signature lighting elements in its new vehicles, which would make perfect sense here. Otherwise, this lighting could simply be used as a way to better see around a vehicle in the dark – another potential use for such a feature.
