Imported 1975 Ford Escort Mk1 Mexico Replica Up For Auction

Though it’s been out of production for some time now, the Ford Escort remains a popular entity among collectors, with many special examples selling at auction in recent years. That includes a 1979 Escort rally racer once driven by Russell Brooks, a 1985 Escort RS formerly driven by Princess Diana, an imported 1988 XR3i, and a 1978 Escort RS2000, to name just a few. Now, fans of that particular model have yet another cool example they can bid on – this very cool, imported 1975 Ford Escort Mk1 Mexico replica, which is currently up for grabs at Bring a Trailer.

This particular Ford Escort started life as a regular old right-hand drive South African model that was modified to make it resemble the Mk1 Mexico racer, then imported into the U.S. at a later date. During its refurbishment, the car was painted yellow with Mexico-style graphics and trim, and the previous owner added additional goodies such as Carello driving lights, bullet-style side mirrors, and 13-inch SA Custom alloy wheels wrapped with 215/50 Bridgestone Sports Tourer MY-01 tires.

By contrast, the interior is a bit more subdued, with brown vinyl seats, woodgrain trim, a fire extinguisher, a Pioneer CD player and door speakers, and a wood-rimmed Personal steering wheel with a Momo center cap, retaining much of its original charm rather than forgoing all of those goodies in the name of weight reduction – and speed.

However, this Ford Escort Mk1 Mexico replica is packing something cool under the hood – the naturally-aspirated 1.6L Kent Crossflow inline-four, which has been modified with the addition of twin Weber side-draft carburetors and tubular headers, plus a few dress-up bits and pieces. It sends power to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission, though the seller does note that the carbs need some tuning. Regardless, this is one seriously cool racing replica that we have no doubt will stir up its fair share of interest at auction.
