Imported Ford Escort models are popping up in the U.S., and a handful of examples have found their way to auction sites over the past year, such as a 1978 Escort RS2000 from Belgium, a 1975 Escort MK1 from Mexico, and an ultra-rare 1988 Escort XR3i that made its way from across the pond. Now, a well-traveled 1986 Ford Escort RS Turbo has finally landed stateside, and is currently up for grabs on Bring a Trailer.
This 1986 Ford Escort RS Turbo spent some time in Spain, where it underwent refurbishment before it was shipped to the U.S. The selling dealer acquired the coupe in January 2023, and the neat little vehicle has just 94,000 kilometers – roughly 58,000 miles – racked up so far. It was repainted in Diamond White paired with gray cloth upholstery, and features a short decklid spoiler, a sunroof, and bodyside graphics, which were replaced under the prior owner. It rolls on a set of 16-inch seven-spoke wheels, wrapped in 195/45 Falken tires, while stopping power is provided by front disc brakes and rear drums.
Inside, the 1986 Ford Escort RS Turbo features gray upholstery with blue piping, along with color-coordinated cloth accents and door panels throughout. It features a Blaupunkt stereo, power windows, and Recaro front bucket seats. The interior was refurbished under the previous owner.
Under the hood rests a modest turbocharged 1.6L I4 engine, which has been outfitted with an Omex engine management system, a Bailey blowoff valve, Ramair air filter and silicone hoses. Power is routed to the front two wheels via the five-speed manual transmission. The seller indicates that the exhaust has had stainless steel components installed.
At the time of this writing, the high bid is $5,000, and interested buyers have until January 5th, 2024 to bid.
