Though it has faced its fair share of criticism from lawmakers and local residents, the future Ford BlueOval Battery Park Michigan site in the town of Marshall is well on its way to completion, regardless. After receiving its slice of state funding, construction at the site paused temporarily amid slowing demand for EVs and uncertainties pertaining to negotiations with the United Auto Workers (UAW) union, though site prep continued unabated. However, after Ford announced that it would be delaying or canceling $12 billion in planned EV investments, planned production at the BlueOval Battery Park Michigan site was subsequently scaled back, though it remains on track to build its fair share of EV batteries, regardless. Now, as construction continues, Ford has officially joined the Marshall Area Economic Development Alliance (MAEDA).
“It’s great to have a Michigan-based company like Ford as an official MAEDA member, working with our entire business community to create local jobs and opportunities for our young people so they don’t have to move away to find good-paying jobs,” said Jim Durian, CEO of MAEDA.
To mark this special occasion, Ford hosted a welcome party at the future BlueOval Battery Park Michigan site, where Scott Davis – newly named CEO of future plant, which will produce lithium-iron phosphate batteries for EVs – touched on the company’s ongoing commitment to Marshall and the region. Following its recent revision, the under-construction facility will create approximately 1,700 local jobs and is now recruiting leadership positions ahead of its planned production start in 2026.
“As a Marshall Township resident, myself, it’s wonderful to be among our friends and neighbors today,” Davis said. “We’re not waiting for our doors to open in Marshall to start investing in this community. Ford has already invested $100,000 in a variety of community programs and organizations.”
