The Ford Puma has consistently been at the top of the sales charts in Europe since its introduction several years ago, and it hasn’t lost any momentum throughout the first half of 2023. The crossover was one of the best-selling models in August and September, and it’s no surprise that it earned the honors once again in October 2023, landing a slot as one of the top 10 best-selling vehicles in Europe, according to JATO Dynamics.
The Ford Puma nosed its way into eighth place during October, its registrations soaring 25 percent to 14,002 units during the month. It tailed the Dacia Sandero (22,335), the Fiat/Abarth 500 (15,426), Renault Clio (15,408), Yaris Cross (15,401), Citroen C3 (14,592) and Peugeot 208 (14,500).
Meanwhile, the Puma outperformed the Volkswagen Polo (13,782), Opel/Vauxhall Corsa (13,755), Kia Sportage (13,538), Volkswagen T-Roc (13,334), Hyundai Tucson (12,915), Fiat Panda (12,801), Skoda Octavia (12,359), Volkswagen Golf (12,230), Renault Captur (12,234), Toyota Corolla (11,678), Mini Hatch (11,632), Audi A3 (11,094), Toyota Yaris (10,798), Tesla Model Y (10,774), Nissan Qashqai (10,623), Ford Kuga (10,485) and Volvo XC40 (10,301).
Industrywide, new vehicle registrations in Europe increased 14 percent year-over-year to 1,040,278 units during October 2023, compared to 909,724 units in October 2022. This marks the 15th consecutive month of positive growth, and through the first 10 months of 2023, 10,677,402 new vehicle registrations have been recorded, up 17 percent from the same time period last year.
“Overall, October’s new vehicle registration data suggests that the European car market is more resilient and better prepared for the prospect of an economic downturn in the coming months,” said Felipe Munoz, Global Analyst at JATO Dynamics.
He also noted that there has been a marked increase in interest in battery electric vehicles, thanks to a wider range of discounts and incentives toward their purchase, although it’s worth noting that quite a few internal combustion-powered vehicles, like the Ford Puma, continue to top the charts.
“The increasing demand for electric cars is more a response to the range of deals on offer and the increase in supply, rather than competitiveness in price and the variety of models available,” Munoz said.
