FoMoCo has a history of lending a hand to areas in need of assistance after devastating natural disasters. Team Rubicon and The Blue Oval have teamed up to provide disaster relief where needed across the U.S., and Ford employees in Turkey stepped up to help their community after a catastrophic earthquake earlier this year. The automaker has now announced that it has extended its humanitarian efforts in China, donating several Ford Ranger pickups to help with local disaster cleanup.
Ford, in collaboration with Ford Beyond, contributed five Ford Ranger pickups to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in China. Shanghai Blue Sky Rescue and Xiamen Dawn Emergency Rescue each received two pickups, while environmental organization Bejing Hongshiqingye Nature Ecology Technology received one.
“In line with our vision to ‘build a better world, where every person is free to move and pursue their dreams,’ Ford Motor Company is demonstrating our concern and our commitment to the well-being of Chinese communities by contributing vehicle donations that can support important disaster relief and environmental initiatives,” said Sam Wu, President and CEO of Ford China.
Disaster relief efforts in China can challenge rescuers with terrain that’s difficult to navigate, especially in the case of earthquakes and weather events. This makes the Ford Ranger the ideal candidate as a rescue vehicle, thanks to its off-roading capabilities and ample cargo room, encouraging the automaker to donate the model for emergency services purposes.
Ford’s generous donations to disaster relief don’t stop with the Ford Ranger. In fact, throughout the 2022 calendar year, the automaker allocated $2.3 million globally to assist countries in the aftermath of disasters, which included helping with local nonprofits, dealers and aid organizations, while also providing a network of Ford employee volunteers to be boots on the ground in stricken areas.
