The Ford Transit Connect has proven to be an excellent buy for commercial fleets, winning out over its larger sibling, the “regular” Transit in certain respects, thanks to its smaller overall footprint and comparable cargo capabilities. It also tends to be a good choice from an economic standpoint, having earned the 2023 Best CPO (Certified Pre-Owned) Value in America Award from Vincentric, and now, the compact van has held onto the honors for 2024.
Both Ford Transit Connect variants – passenger van and cargo van – came out on top in their respective categories in the 2024 Best CPO awards. It walked away with the Small Passenger Cargo Van win thanks to having the best fuel economy, lowest operating and maintenance costs, while its overall ownership costs trend 1.9 percent below expectations, outperforming two of its hottest rivals for the crown. As for the Small Commercial Cargo Van category, the Transit Connect was once again commended for its low ownership costs, which are 1.8 percent lower than the expected costs in its division.
In order to determine the 2024 Best CPO Value in America Award winners, Vincentric took a look at the vehicles that had lower than expected ownership costs given their market segment and price. The company studied over 18,000 vehicle configurations using eight cost factors to do this: depreciation, fees and taxes, financing, fuel, insurance, maintenance, opportunity cost, and repairs.
Said costs were measured while taking into account the CPO warranty offered by each manufacturer while also applying mileage requirements necessary to be authorized as an OEM CPO vehicle. Vehicles were evaluated in all 50 states plus Washington D.C., with the assumption that each would be driven 15,000 miles annually over five years.
The Ford Transit Connect was joined by Blue Oval brethren as a CPO vehicle, as the Ford Expedition earned the title in its division, as did the Lincoln Navigator.
