Ford Transit Production Decreased In November 2023

Throughout the 2023 calendar year, Ford Transit production at the Kansas City Assembly plant has been a bit up and down. Back in August, Ford built a total of 5,399 Transit vans – its worst output of the year at that point – which was a whopping 62 percent less than July, when it produced 14,215 units. Things quickly rebounded in September, however, as Ford managed to build 15,789 Transit models in that month – 10,390 units or 192 percent more compared to the prior month – and in October, that number increased yet again, this time by 10 percent to 17,387 units. Now, according to the automaker’s latest sales report, Ford Transit production followed that upward trend by decreasing in November.

Last month, a grand total of 14,466 Ford Transit models emerged from the Kansas City Assembly plant, which is just the seventh most of any month in the 2023 calendar year thus far. It also represents a month-over-month decrease of 2,921 units or 16.7 percent, bringing the Transit’s year-to-date production total up to 156,657 units.

Ford previously admitted that it underestimated demand for the Transit, which continues to outsell its competition by a large margin, and as such, it has been trying to catch up with that elevated demand ever since. In fact, the Transit is one of a select few, in-demand models that The Blue Oval has worked to ramp up production of in recent months, along with its EV counterpart, the E-Transit. To do so, the automaker invested $95 million in its Kansas City Assembly plant and added a third shift there back in April.

As a result of the Transit’s popularity and demand that outweighs supply, there are zero discounts or incentives available for the model in the month of December, as Ford Authority previously reported – which is often the case with highly coveted vehicles such as this.
