The Ford Authority Take
Ford has filed a number of frunk-related patents in recent weeks – or front trunk, if you will – introducing ideas for a frunk-mounted shade, as well as a climate-controlled frunk. Now, this latest filing keeps that trend going by presenting us with an idea for a frunk-mounted projection screen that could be used in future Ford EVs, building upon another patent filing from last year for a retractable video display system.
As Ford points out in the patent filing, all-electric vehicles with large frunks provide us with a whole new realm of possibilities in regards to how we might use that newfound space, which is otherwise occupied by a gas engine in ICE vehicles. Aside from a cooler or a work space, this new patent may just preview a future in which we can sit in front of the vehicle and watch TV shows or movies, too – or perhaps even sporting events while tailgating.
In this case, the projection screen is designed to take up a minimal amount of space in the frunk and be stored inside of its own housing. When the user wants to deploy it, they could do so remotely or inside of the vehicle, at which point the screen would raise up, presenting itself. It’s a nifty idea for certain, and one that we imagine quite a few folks would find appealing – especially if they spend a lot of time outdoors.
