Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for an electronic device holder that could be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on June 15th, 2022, published on December 21st, 2023, and assigned serial number 0406222.
The Ford Authority Take
In recent months, Ford has filed patents for ideas including a system capable of hosting virtual meetings, a movable center console with hidden storage space, and a modular storage system, each of which is centered around the automaker’s belief that in the near future, our vehicles will double more as mobile meeting and living spaces instead of just basic modes of transportation. Now, this newly filed patent keeps that trend going by outlining an idea for an electronic device holder that could be used in future Ford vehicles, too.
These days, many crossovers and SUVs can be optioned with screens that are mounted to the rear portion of the front passenger headrests, which enable second-row passengers – oftentimes younger children – to watch videos, TV, or play video games on the go, making long road trips a bit more bearable for the entire family. However, this patent would make such a process even easier by allowing users to attach any kind of electronic device in that same spot, whether it be a smartphone or tablet, specifically.
The benefit of such a switch is that no matter how old a vehicle is, its screens won’t be outdated, as one can simply add their latest electronic device and use it in this manner. It also makes it easier to access the latest in terms of games and software, rather than having to update them in a vehicle, making this a pretty interesting idea, indeed.

It’s a phone… I’m a passenger… I’ll just hold it with my hands lol
I believe that the majority of people are just looking for transportation , not a mobile office. I suppose it is a way to add thousands of $ to the already bloated prices.
