Jay Leno isn’t shy about his love for cars, taking any unique vehicle he can get his hands on for a spin to show off online. Often, he takes control of vehicles that are owned by fellow comedians, such as a 1986 Ford RS200 that’s part of Tim Allen’s personal stable. The latest Blue Oval vehicle in Jay Leno’s Garage is a 1994 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra pace car replica owned by comedian Gabriel Iglesias – aka “Fluffy” – that’s obviously well cared for and hardly broken in.
This 1994 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra is a replica Indy 500 pace car, and is dressed with subtle details hinting at its heritage, such as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway logo stitched into its seatbacks, as well as fender badges. While only five actual pace cars were used in the 1994 Indy 500, Ford build 1,000 replica pace cars that featured performance upgrades. This particular example only has 12 miles on the odometer, as it went immediately to a vehicle collector before Iglesias eventually picked it up.
After coaxing the convertible top shut to stave off light rain, Leno and Iglesias hit the road in the pristine Mustang SVT Cobra, which is motivated by its Ford 5.0L V8 engine, rated at 240 horsepower and 385 pound-feet of torque. Leno remarks that it feels a bit strange to be in a 30-year-old car that looks as new as this one does, and it has plenty of get-up-and-go. The transmission shifts very smoothly, allowing for flawless acceleration up to speed as Leno opens the throttle. Overall, he’s very pleased with the muscle car, and impressed with its condition.
“I kind of forgot about Mustangs from the 90s,” Leno says. “If you see one, it’s kind of a ratty one… this one’s got all the options, you got electric windows, you got air conditioning, it’s a convertible… I don’t think you’ll lose any money on this one.”
Leno’s probably right about that – a similar 1994 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra pace car replica recently sold for $37,000, meaning that Iglesias’ likely holds at least the same value.
