The Ford Probe is a model with a truly interesting history, one that includes the fact that it was originally intended to replace the Ford Mustang, yet public backlash ultimately prevented that from happening. Regardless, the Probe went on to enjoy some sales success for a number of years before it was discontinued, and recently, we’ve seen a few nice examples pop up at collector car auctions, too – a list that includes a 30k-mile 1993 GT and a 45k-mile 1994 SE. However, it’ll be hard to top this 1997 Ford Probe that’s currently up for grabs on eBay in the UK with less than 1,000 miles showing on the odometer.
This very special 1997 Ford Probe was actually given away as the top prize in a Ford-sponsored competition that took place that same year, but as it turned out, the lucky winner didn’t really have any use for it, apparently. Thus, they stored it away and rarely drove it over the ensuing years, leaving it in immaculate condition to this day.
Finished in New Sahara Gold with a charcoal gray leather interior, this Probe certainly fits the old adage of being a “time capsule,” and its 2.5L V6 was treated to a full cam belt service after it was acquired by the selling dealer. Regardless, the asking price of £14,995 doesn’t seem to terribly unreasonable, but then again, this isn’t a particularly rare or coveted model – just a cool find with an interesting story, at least.
“This really is an exceptional and collectable Ford,” said Bill Postins, the dealer who’s selling this special Ford Probe. “I usually deal in classic British sports cars from the 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s, but when I came across this, I just had to buy it. It drives like a car that has just come off the production line.”

Ah the good old days when Ford dominated the market.
Kinda thought they were ugly but i guess after 27 years its not bad
Miss my GT!
The front seat coverings look more wrinkled than a car with 1000 miles on the odometer should, particularly the driver’s.
