Ford’s large sedans underpinned by the Panther-platform may be long gone – discontinued years ago – but they still hold a special place in the hearts of many, ranging from enthusiasts to taxi drivers to police officers. Long known for being incredibly durable, we’ve seen quite a few nice examples of these vehicles pop up at collector car auctions recently, including a 10k-mile 2005 Ford Crown Victoria, a 2011 Crown Vic with 33k miles, and a 2k-mile 2008 Lincoln Town Car, to name just a few. Now, those that are more fans of the Mercury Grand Marquis can also bid on this stellar example currently up for grabs at Cars & Bids.
This 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis has just 41k miles showing on the odometer – a very low figure for a 20-year-old vehicle of any kind – and it looks the part, too. It’s a true one owner car too, and it has lived its entire life in sunny, dry California, which has only aided in its preservation. The sedan was involved in a minor crash years ago and some panels have been repainted as a result, but otherwise, only the typical scratches and paint chips mar its Performance White finish.
Inside the cabin, one will find mostly the same, with some creases on the seats of its Medium Parchment interior, which is to be expected, and the driver’s power seat is not currently working. Otherwise, this is one clean interior, and it’s full of amenities including leather seats, power-adjustable pedals, faux wood trim, air conditioning, remote keyless entry, and cruise control, to name a few.
Power for this Grand Marquis comes from the naturally-aspirated Ford 4.6L V8, which in this guise was factory-rated to send 224 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels via a four-speed automatic transmission. Though it isn’t likely a hot collector’s item given its murky past, this big Mercury family hauler does look like a truly nice driving machine – and that’s probably enough to generate quite a bit of interest at auction.
