2011-2019 Ford Explorer SUVs Recalled Over Trim Piece Issue

Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2011-2019 Ford Explorer models over an issue with some of its trim pieces.

The defect: in affected vehicles, the A-pillar trim retention clips may not be properly engaged, allowing the trim to detach.

The hazards: a detached trim piece can fall off the vehicle, becoming a road hazard and increasing the risk of a crash.

Components: A-pillar trim retention clips

Affected vehicles: select 2011-2019 Ford Explorer models built at the Chicago Assembly Plant between May 17th, 2010, and March 3rd, 2019.

Number of vehicles affected: 1,889,110

The fix: dealers will inspect and replace the A-pillar trim as necessary, free of charge.

Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin on March 13th, 2024. The Ford reference number for this recall is 24S02.
