FoMoCo has a long history of helping raise money for worthy causes via the sale of the very first example of many special models through charity auctions, a list that includes the first 2021 Ford Mustang Mach 1 and VIN 001 of the 2024 Ford Mustang, to name just a couple. The all-new 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse accompanied the launch of the S650 generation pony car by introducing a new range-topping variant, and thus, it should come as no surprise to learn that the first example of that model is also heading to Barrett-Jackson’s Scottsdale auction later this month to benefit a great cause as well.
2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse VIN 001 is being auctioned off to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), which is the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. This common autoimmune disease affects many children and adults and is not the product of a poor diet or lifestyle, and instead, cannot be prevented – rather, those affected by it must live their lives managing the fact that their bodies aren’t capable of producing insulin.
Thus, JDRF has set out to end type 1 diabetes for good, and 100 percent of the proceeds from the sale of this 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse will go to aid in those efforts. This particular example is fully loaded with the optional Handling Package, the Appearance Package, and Recaro seats, along with both painted hood and accent stripes, to boot.
Like all Dark Horse Mustangs, this one is also equipped with an enhanced version of the naturally-aspirated 5.0L V8 Coyote engine, which produces 500 horsepower and 418 pound-feet of torque, in this case mated to the six-speed Tremec manual transmission. Throw in a host of unique styling touches and suspension upgrades, and for now at least, the Dark Horse is the ultimate version of the S650 – making the very first one built an enticing action offering, for sure.
