The aftermarket outfit known as Cobb has been churning out performance parts and tuning solutions for a wide variety of vehicles for many years now. That list includes plenty of Blue Oval models, as one would imagine, including custom tunes for Ford F-150 pickups equipped with the twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine and a larger intake scoop bracket for the same model. Now, Cobb has revealed its latest offering for the Ford F-150 – its new Hydrocarbon Trap Intakes, which have now been awarded an Executive Order from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) – something that has never been accomplished before.
In recent history, getting approval for performance parts from CARB has proven to be a tough task given California’s stringent emissions regulations, making it difficult for enthusiasts that reside there to modify their vehicles. However, these new intakes managed to buck that trend in impressive fashion, and are now available for a variety of models including 2018-2020 Ford F-150 pickups equipped with the 3.5L V6 EcoBoost engine, the F-150 Raptor, and the newer 2021-2023 F-150 and F-150 Raptor with the same powerplant.
Cobb’s Hydrocarbon Trap Intakes replace the factory units with a redesigned part that increases airflow and performance, and works seamlessly with the company’s Accessport, OTS maps, and intercooler upgrades. The newly updated design incorporate OEM-grade hydrocarbon traps into the tubing without restricting airflow, to boot.
The revised intakes utilize 3k Row 2×2 Twill Carbon Fiber construction and feature a gloss clear coat finish, a dual-inlet filter with 165 percent more surface area than the stock part, an OEM-style Hydrocarbon filter element, and black phosphate-coated 304 stainless steel hardware. The new intakes retail for anywhere from $450 to $795 depending on the application, and are available to purchase now.
