The Ford Escape has long been not only a popular choice for new vehicle shoppers, but also those in the used market as well. In fact, the Escape landed on iSeeCars’ list of the most popular used vehicles of 2022 after making that same list a year earlier, most recently finishing eighth among all models by accounting for 1.5 percent of all used vehicle sales. Now iSeeCars has released the 2023 version of this same report, and it found that the Ford Escape was once again one of the most popular used vehicles among shoppers last year, joining the Ford F-150 and the Ford Explorer in that regard.
Last year, the Ford Escape accounted for 1.4 percent of all one- to five-year-old used vehicle sales in the U.S., which is 0.2 percent lower than 2022. That was good enough to rank the Ford Escape 13th among all used models, behind the Ford F-150 (3.3 percent), Chevy Silverado 1500 (2.6 percent), Chevy Equinox (2.1 percent), Ram 1500 (2.1 percent), Toyota Camry (1.8 percent), Honda Civic (1.7 percent), Toyota RAV4 (1.7 percent), Toyota Corolla (1.5 percent), Ford Explorer (1.5 percent), Nissan Rogue (1.5 percent), and Honda CR-V (1.5 percent), while also tying it with the Jeep Grand Cherokee, Toyota Tacoma, and Nissan Altima.
To come up with this data, iSeeCars analyzed over 9.2 million used car sales from the last five model years (2018 – 2022). Each model’s share of used car sales was calculated nationally, as well as within each metro area and state.
“Trucks have been so dominant in the U.S. market for so long that it’s strange to see the Ram lose its top-three ranking, even to an SUV as popular as the Chevrolet Equinox,” said Karl Brauer, iSeeCars Executive Analyst. “This shift reflects the jump in gas prices during 2023, which led many consumers to move away from large trucks and SUVs and into smaller, more fuel-efficient models.”
