After debuting to tremendous demand, the Ford F-150 Lightning has cooled off somewhat as of late – leading to a bit of an inventory backlog – which recently prompted The Blue Oval to scale back its planned production of the EV pickup for the coming year. Regardless, Ford F-150 Lightning sales set a new record in 2023 as the EV pickup was the best-selling model of its kind last year – and one of the top-selling EVs overall – and it continues to earn its fair share of accolades, to boot. Now, the F-150 Lightning has added yet another distinction to a long list of them – Edmunds’ Top Rated Electric Truck for 2024.
Edmunds releases its Top Rated awards each year in an effort to recognize the very best vehicles on the market, no matter when they actually launched. Each year, the company’s editorial team tests more than 300 models and covers over 500,000 miles in an effort to determine rankings that serve as the basis for these award results.
Edmunds selected the Ford F-150 Lightning for a number of reasons, including the fact that it looks and functions more like a traditional truck than some of its rivals, with capability that’s on par with its ICE counterpart. Testers were also impressed with the pickup’s innovative features, comfortable ride, and bevy of available accessories.
“The F-150 Lightning is appealing in the way a regular F-150 is: It’s easy to drive and comfortable, and it can be had with some cool features that enhance the type of things you’ll want to do with a truck,” said Edmunds senior editor Brian Wong. “The Lightning wins for being less like an electric truck and more like a truck that just so happens to be electric.”
