Though Blue Oval vehicles are a common sight at online collector car auctions, we’ve also seen quite a few go karts designed to look like those same models pop up for sale recently, too, a list that includes a very cool Model T go kart and another that mimics a vintage street rod. Now, this Ford Fox Body Mustang pace car go kart has surfaced for sale at Bring a Trailer, and needless to say, it would also make for a pretty cool collectible – or the perfect vessel to get one’s kids into the automotive hobby, too.
This Ford Mustang based go kart was built by the folks at F.W. and Associates in Mansfield, Ohio, who designed it to look like a Fox Body Mustang IMSA racer. However, the seller purchased it last year and proceeded to change up that look a bit by making it resemble the 1979 Mustang Indianapolis 500 Pace Car, adding the same two-tone pewter/black scheme and graphics as the real thing. The kart also features a fake hood scoop, headlight and taillight decals, a black front air dam, side skirts, rear bumper, a rear spoiler, and silver-painted faux side windows, door handles, and locks with six-inch wheels.
Peek inside the “cabin,” and one will see that this Fox Body Mustang go kart is underpinned by a tubular chassis, with one drum brake present to slow it down. Otherwise, the interior is simple and straightforward, equipped with a single black seat and a three-spoke steering wheel, but essentially nothing else.
Power for this kart comes from a replacement 208cc Briggs & Stratton XR Professional single motor, which was just installed last year and churns out a whopping 6.5 horsepower, which its sends to the rear axle via a centrifugal clutch and a drive chain. If nothing else, this pony car go kart is certainly a cool conversation piece, and in that regard, we imagine that plenty of Mustang fans will be interested in bidding on it.
