The Ford GT40 – and its successor, the Ford GT – have long held a special place in the hearts of Blue Oval fans, including CEO Jim Farley himself, who happens to own – and compete in – one of the last GT40s ever built. A select few customers can even purchase brand new turnkey replicas of the GT40, giving them the next best thing to the real deal, million dollar racer. Now, fans of the world (and Ferrari) beater in general will be happy to know that they’ll soon get the chance to see many important examples up close as part of the upcoming Ford GT40 60th anniversary reunion tour.
It may seem hard to believe, but the Ford GT40 is turning 60 years old in 2024, which calls for a special celebration. That’s precisely what’s set to happen as part of a partnership between Superformance, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, and Autoventure USA too, with a reunion set to take place at the Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum, Pennsylvania, on July 26th through July 28th, 2024.
This gathering will feature a number of original Ford GT40 racers, recreations, and modern versions of the Ford GT, but is open to all GT variants. The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix Historics previously hosted the national convention for the Shelby American Automobile Club in 2019 and 2023, and features a 2.78-mile track that’s ideal for those wanting to participate in open track sessions and a dedicated race group.
“I have had the pleasure of attending two GT reunions, the 1989 Watkins Glen event and the 2009 Reunion at Road America,” said Rick Muck, Managing Director of AutoventureUSA, the official host of the GT40 Reunion. “Anyone who was at one of these understands the historic nature of the event, the incredible cars, and the history and camaraderie that takes place there.”
“We are excited to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the iconic GT40 at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix,” said Lance Stander, CEO of Superformance. “The fierce wheel-to-wheel action is the perfect backdrop to show the public that they can still order a genuine GT40 through Superformance today. We look forward to being part of the high-octane action as the ‘Ford versus Ferrari’ battle returns to the track for a few glorious days.”
