The Ford Authority Take

For the first time in a while, Ford Mustang sales saw a notable upswing during Q4 2023. This is due in part to the all-new seventh-generation 2024 Ford Mustang, which went on sale last quarter. The overhauled model debuted to much fanfare, and has already accumulated quite a few accolades and wiped out the competition in comparison tests. As such, it’s safe to say that the 2024 Mustang is a hot seller, and will continue to drive interest in the pony car in the coming months as well.

Additionally, production of the Mustang improved during December 2023, as 6,553 pony cars rolled off the assembly line at the Flat Rock Assembly plant in Michigan last month. That followed several steady months of decent output at the plant through the third and fourth quarters, ensuring dealers had a plethora of pony cars through the end of the year.

However, it’s no secret that the age of the muscle car is drawing to a close, and the Mustang will stand alone in its segment in the near future, at least for a limited time. The Camaro is on the way out, and production of the current-gen Challenger wrapped up in late December. The Challenger will likely be replaced by an all-electric muscle car, while the future of the Camaro nameplate is up in the air beyond the 2024 model year.
