Though the all-new, next-generation Ford Ranger just launched a few months ago in the U.S., the redesigned pickup has been on sale in other global markets a bit longer – including Australia. There, the new Ranger has proven to be a very popular entity among consumers, prompting dealer markups and selling out quickly, even as prices have risen multiple times and supply chain challenges have forced Ford to drop some features from its mid-size pickup. In spite of all this, the Ford Ranger managed to beat out the Toyota Hilux and become the best-selling vehicle of any kind in Australia in 2023.
Way to go Team @FordAustralia! For the first time in almost 30 years, a Blue Oval vehicle is back on top Down Under. The new @Ford Ranger is officially the best selling vehicle in Australia for 2023. Better than Vegemite on toast! https://t.co/EHvbYJ7JFP pic.twitter.com/FHlE9X3KML

As Ford CEO Jim Farley pointed out on X, the 63,356 Ford Ranger pickups customers purchased in 2023 helped The Blue Oval achieve a goal that is hasn’t in nearly three decades – outsell its rivals in that particular market with a singular model. It’s certainly a notable achievement for that reason and more, particularly as not a single passenger car ranked in the top ten this past year.
Instead, the Ford Ranger beat out the second-place Toyota Hilux – its chief rival in that market that was the best-selling vehicle in Australia in 2022 – which moved 61,111 units, followed by the Isuzu Ute D-Max (31,202 units sold), the Toyota RAV4 (29,600), MG ZS (29,300), Tesla Model Y (28,800), Toyota Land Cruiser (26,400), Mitsubishi Outlander (24,300), Mazda CX-5 (23,100), and Hyundai Tucson (21,200) rounding out the top 10. As a whole, the Australian market set a new all-time record with 1.2 million new vehicle sales occurring last year, too.
