The Ford Transit Custom has long enjoyed tremendous popularity in the UK, where it was previously that country’s best-selling vehicle in both 2021 and 2022. However, times are clearly changing, and while the Ford Transit Connect didn’t manage to pull off the three-peat in 2023, it did wind up closing out the year as the UK’s best-selling van and commercial vehicle – joining the Ford Puma, which was that same country’s top-selling passenger car in 2023 and the Ford Ranger, which recorded its best-ever sales result in the UK at 18,700 units.
The Ford Transit Connect has now taken home the title of being the UK’s best-selling van, in particular, for 10 straight years, which is quite the achievement. Meanwhile, a completely redesigned version of the popular model just launched in Europe last October, which will undoubtedly help it continue its long-running sales success.
“I’m delighted that Puma was both the best-selling vehicle and car in the UK and Transit Custom was best-selling commercial vehicle in 2023,” said Lisa Brankin, Ford UK chair and MD. “This terrific achievement in 2023 is a great foundation for us to step forward into 2024 and roll out our electrification plan at pace in both the car and van markets.”
The all-new Ford Transit Custom is offered with a variety of powertrains including the Ford EcoBlue diesel with outputs of 110 PS, 136 PS, 150 PS and 170 PS, a plug-in hybrid that pairs the 2.5L Atkinson cycle gas engine with an 11.8 kWh battery to deliver an electric-only driving range of up to 57 kilometers (35 miles), and the brand-new, all-electric E-Transit Custom. Thus far, the new Transit Custom has earned its fair share of accolades as well, including being named Parkers’ “Best Medium Van” and “Best Commercial Vehicle” in the UK for 2024.
