Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for water generation estimation technology that could be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on July 15th, 2022, published on January 18th, 2024, and assigned serial number 0019256.
The Ford Authority Take
In recent months, Ford has filed patents for both a vehicle water heating system and a vehicular water generation system, revealing that the automaker views the capability of a vehicle to store or filter water as something that might be of particular interest to customers in the future. Part of this is also due to poor water quality in many areas – or the lack of access to clean drinking water in general – and that also seems to be the motivation behind this newly filed patent for water generation estimation technology that could be used in future Ford vehicles, too.
As Ford points out in this patent, vehicles can make suitable vessels for generating water that’s safe for people to consume, but a vehicle’s ability to do precisely that can vary greatly depending on environmental conditions. It can oftentimes be challenging to predict such things, which is precisely where this patent comes into play.
The system depicted here would use sensors to determine the environmental condition of a specific geographical area, which would be displayed on the vehicle’s infotainment screen. From there, a controller would be able to come up with an estimate regarding water generation potential based on that info, which could presumably help users find a suitable source, making this idea quite viable for use in future Ford vehicles.
