Ford Motor Company has filed a patent for a deployable workstation that could be used in future Ford vehicles, Ford Authority has learned.
The patent was filed on July 25th, 2022, published on January 25th, 2024, and assigned serial number 0025323.
The Ford Authority Take
Ford has made it no secret that it envisions us using our vehicles as far more than just basic modes of transportation in the future – rather, it believes that with the arrival of full autonomy at some point, we’ll instead be using those same vehicles as mobile offices, too. A handful of recent patent filings from the automaker outline precisely what this might look like, a list that includes a system capable of hosting virtual meetings, console table assemblies, and a deployable vehicle desk, to name just a few. Now, this newly filed patent keeps the trend going by introducing an idea for a deployable workstation that could be used in future Ford vehicles, too.
As Ford points out in the patent, even today, there are times when we tend to use our vehicles as mobile offices, and as such, it makes sense to incorporate a deployable workstation for such purposes. In this case, that workstation would include a desk and display screen, which could both pivot in different directions.
When this workstation isn’t needed, it would fold neatly away, out of sight and out of the way of occupants or cargo, and when it is needed, one could simply fold it down and get to work. It’s a simple yet potentially very useful feature that makes a lot of sense, particularly given the existence of features like Ford’s Interior Work Surface, and could wind up coming to fruition at some point in the future, too.
