S650 Ford Mustang Factory X Racer Potentially Teased

The arrival of the all-new S650 Ford Mustang has thus far produced a number of new race cars – many of which are based on the range-topping Dark Horse variant – including the GT3, GT4, and the latest NASCAR Cup car, with more in the pipeline. To date, Ford has been keen to tease us prior to the debut of these various S650 Ford Mustang based race cars, and now, it’s doing precisely that once again via this post on the social media platform X, which previews the arrival of yet another mysterious pony car racer.

With just a couple of close-up shots and a short sentence, Ford isn’t exactly giving us too many details about this new model, but we can read the proverbial tea leaves – or hash tags – to gain some more clues. The most important is the fact that Ford has accompanied these photos with a “Factory X” tag, which just so happens to be the National Hot Rod Associations’ (NHRA) fairly new division that just kicked off last fall.

Currently, the Ford Mustang Super Cobra Jet (not the EV version) competes in this class, alongside the COPO Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger Drag Pak. The new Factory X (FX) exhibition racing class essentially bridges the gap between Factory Stock Showdown and Pro Stock, and it has quite a few specific rules. Eligible vehicles must be from the 2019 model year or newer, have a minimum weight limit of 2,650 pounds, be equipped with a manual transmission, can’t have any sort of body alterations, must feature steel-roof and quarter-body panels, have functional doors, a stock grille and lighting, and must also race on tires that measure 33 inches tall and 10.5 inches wide.

It’s unclear if we are in fact staring at a new S650 Ford Mustang Factory X racer, but that certainly seems to be the case. In any event, it seems as if it’s only a matter of time before the next new pony car racer debuts – and it may also keep the Cobra Jet going for a new generation, to boot.

We’ll have more on this new pony car racer soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for more Ford Mustang news and non-stop Ford news coverage.

Brett's lost track of all the Fords he's owned over the years and how much he's spent modifying them, but his current money pits include an S550 Mustang and 13th gen F-150.
