For months now, we’ve been following the saga of YouTuber John Ross and his girlfriend’s 2015 Ford Focus. That particular car is equipped with the much-maligned Powershift transmission, the subject of multiple lawsuits, with the most recent update being that Ross’ warranty claim for that problem was denied by the automaker. However, Ross has also made time for yet another new project, though this time, it’s a bit different – a wrecked 2017 Ford Fusion Energi, which he picked up for pennies on the dollar and wound up touting its many valuable parts.
Ross purchased this particular Ford Fusion Energi for a mere $900 – quite the discount compared to its original MSRP – but of course, it isn’t exactly in great condition. Rather, it’s been in an accident and is missing its bumpers, for starters, along with various other bits and pieces. However, this high-tech hybrid is also equipped with a ton of valuable components that make it worth parting out and selling on their own, it seems.
Those parts include the Fusion’s radar sensors, which are still in good condition, though its original hybrid battery – a piece that on its own is worth around $1,000 – has already been removed, along with one wheel. Regardless, the catalytic converters alone can help Ross recoup around one-third of his investment, and that’s just the beginning.
On top of that, Ross believes the engine is likely running just fine, as most of the damage here was caused by its previous accident, in which the Ford Fusion ran off an embankment and hit a tree. Otherwise, there are plenty of high-value parts here – the car’s taillights, higher-end sound system, blind spot mirrors, and various other components – which Ross figures can net him around $5,000-$6,000 in total, if and when he decides to part it out.
