Ford Motor Company is recalling select 2023-2024 Ford Transit models over an issue with inadequate lubrication.
The defect: affected vehicles may contain an inadequate amount of rear axle lubricant.
The hazards: an inadequate amount of rear axle lubricant may cause rear axle tail bearing damage and seizure, which can result in wheel lock-up or driveshaft separation.
Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue.
Components: rear axle lubricant
Affected vehicles: select 2023-2024 Ford Transit vehicles produced between May 17th, 2023, and November 30th, 2023.
Number of vehicles affected: 77,584
The fix: dealers will inspect the rear axle, and replace the axle bearings or axle assembly as necessary, free of charge.
Owners should: wait for communications from Ford, which will begin March 4th, 2024. The Ford reference number for this recall is 24S05.

How about an update on Ford’s lack of progress on this recall 24SO5?
Took delivery of a 2024 high roof extended AWD on March 21st. Returned it to their service department minutes later after the rear end was howling as soon as I got on the freeway. The dealership has a plan and all the parts in house, but the repair is still hung up two months later over corporate’s unwillingness to approve (i.e. pay).
Now looking at returning for refund and buying a sprinter.
