2024 Ford Mustang Gets Matte Clear Film From The Factory

Back in September 2022, Ford Authority reported that The Blue Oval was considering adding some matte paint options to its lineup, and since then, we’ve begun to slowly see that desire come to life. The Ford F-150 Lightning Platinum Black became the first production FoMoCo pickup to feature a matte wrap from the factory when it debuted last August, and the Ford Bronco has gained a few matte wheel options as well. Now, roughly a year and a half after Ford Authority spotted a Mustang Bullitt testing with matte Highland Green paint, the S650 generation 2024 Ford Mustang has gained a matte clear film option from the factory, too.

The new 2024 Ford Mustang matte clear film offering is available on all coupe models – EcoBoost, GT, and Dark Horse – and is compatible with all factory color options as well. The first deliveries of matte-equipped pony cars are expected to commence in June, followed by convertible models in Q4, while the feature itself will be available to order starting tomorrow, February 27th. The matte wrap will cost $5,995, and it comes with the same three-year/36,000-mile factory warranty as the 2024 model year pony car itself.

This new matte clear film for 2024 Ford Mustang models was developed by PPG, and is designed to not only give that model a unique look, but also, the film protects it from the elements and things such as bird droppings, bugs, asphalt residue, and even harsh chemicals used in automatic car washes.

It is worth noting that 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse owners will not get the standard Hood Accent Stripe or be able to select the Painted Racing Stripe in conjunction with the matte film, and it also isn’t available with the GT California Special package or the optional graphics packages for the Mustang EcoBoost and GT. Graphic delete will be a standalone item on the Dark Horse, too.

“Mustang has been about driving freedom and freedom of expression for 60 years, and our new matte clear film provides a whole new way for customers to make Mustang their own,” said Laurie Transou, Mustang Chief Program Engineer.
