Among the many vehicles YouTuber Tyler Hoover – of the channel Hoovie’s Garage – has owned over the years, many of them have come from The Blue Oval. However, most of those models aren’t exactly what one would call gems, as the past couple – a super cheap Ford Excursion with 220k miles and a 2014 Ford F-150 Raptor with 300k miles – proved to be diamonds in the rough, albeit not without their specific flaws, as one would expect from such high-mileage vehicles. Now, Hoovie has made his latest “hooptie” purchase – this 210k-mile 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500.
The S197 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has long been known as a reliable and capable vehicle, but it isn’t exactly every day that we see one with this kind of mileage. Rather, as a collectible and weekend warrior for most people, these cars tend to accumulate very little mileage over the years, but in this specific instance, that isn’t the case at all.
Thanks to its high mileage and plenty of patina, Hoover managed to purchase this GT500 for a mere $14,000, which is pennies on the dollar compared to what they typically sell for. However, he also bought it sight unseen, so there was obviously quite a bit of risk involved. Luckily, thus far, it seems as if that gamble paid off. In fact, Hoover was so confident in his purchase that he took it to the dyno to see just how much power it has lost over the years – and miles.
When that process was complete, this well-worn Ford Mustang GT500 impressed by laying down 573 horsepower and 535 pound-feet of torque. That’s far higher than the car’s stock ratings of 500 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque, though this one has also been modified in various ways. Now, we’ll just be waiting on a thorough analysis of the car by Hoover’s mechanic – David Long, or the Car Wizard – to get a final determination on just how good (or bad) it really is.

They don’t make the cars the way the used to make them. That’s why I drive older cars
