In recent years, Tyler Hoover of the YouTube channel Hoovie’s Garage has had quite a bit of luck with high-mile Blue Oval vehicles he’s purchased, a list that includes a solid-running 2014 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor with 300k miles on the clock, a 220k-mile Ford Excursion he paid a mere $2,000 for, and – most recently – a 2008 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 with 210k miles. Earlier this month, Hoover took his pony car to the dyno – where it cranked out more power than stock, albeit thanks to some modifications – but now, the car has had its official inspection by mechanical and fellow YouTuber David Long, or the Car Wizard as he’s otherwise known, and the results are quite impressive.
This is notable because we rarely see S197 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 models – or any Shelby Mustang, for that matter – with this sort of substantial mileage showing on the odometer, as it’s more of a weekend warrior than a daily driver. However, these cars are known for being quite reliable, and this one has held up impressively well in spite of its hefty use over the past 16 years or so.
Upon closer inspection, Long finds a few minor issues with this high-mileage Mustang, such as a loose supercharger belt, worn out air filters, and struts that need to be replaced, for starters. The check engine light the car is displaying is due to an EVAP system leak, which Long notes could just stem from something small like a loose gas cap, too.
Overall, it’s truly impressive that this particular Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is in such great condition after accumulating so many miles over the years, particularly given that it was purchased sight unseen and with little information provided – Hoover didn’t even know the car had an aftermarket supercharger on it when he brought it home, in fact. Regardless, this is good news for anyone considering purchasing one of these models with higher miles, as they’re clearly built for that sort of task – even if most people don’t drive them a lot.
