Though they continue to get older and older, vintage machines like the legendary Ford Model A continue to prove popular, even as many younger folks have moved on to more modern rides. In fact, we’ve seen some pretty nice examples of one of the original Blue Oval models pop up at various collector car auctions as of late, such as a 1929 Model A pickup turned into a hot rod, George Foreman’s 1931 Model A Cabriolet A400, and a 1930 Model A pickup that was used on a farm for a number of years. Now, we have another cool model to add to that list – this authentic Ford Model A race car that’s currently up for grabs at Bring a Trailer.
This Ford Model A racer was originally pieced together back in the 1930s when the owner and their builder coupled a Model T frame with a Model A powertrain before going racing in the “Big Car” circuit of the midwest. It stayed in their possession until the 1960s, and at some point in the mid-1990s, it was treated to new bodywork before landing on display at Ford Racing’s centennial celebration in 2001. Now, it’s up for sale yet again, this time, with both the original and newer body panels.
Aside from those parts, this vintage Ford Model A racer is equipped with 17-inch wire wheels, Firestone Deluxe Champion front and Gillette Super Traction rear tires, rear drum brakes, and a single-seat cockpit with a red vinyl seat, a combo gauge, a cut-down steering wheel, and a seat belt for good measure.
Power for this very vintage machine comes from a 201 cubic-inch L-head four-cylinder engine that’s been modernized with the addition of an electronic centrifugal distributor, an ignition coil, and new spark plug wires. It sends power to the rear wheels via a sliding-gear three-speed manual transmission and a Model A rear end, making for one cool combination that’s sure to appeal to vintage racing fans and Blue Oval fanatics alike.
