In May of last year, Ford announced that it had reached a deal with Tesla that will provide the owners of its EVs with access to that company’s Supercharger network and later, the company also revealed that owners of the Ford F-150 Lightning and Ford Mustang Mach-E would be receiving an adapter designed to enable those models to utilize Tesla’s North American Charging Standard (NACS) chargers as well. Now, Ford CEO Jim Farley has officially revealed this new EV charging adapter, which he notes is currently undergoing testing before it rolls out to customers.

Farley previously revealed that this Ford NACS adapter would be sent free of charge to F-150 Lightning and Mach-E customers soon, but as of now, we still don’t know when that will be – though recently, the part in question appeared on the automaker’s parts site for a brief time before it vanished. Interestingly, Farley took a bit of a road trip last year in an F-150 Lightning himself, an experience that he admitted proved quite eye opening in terms of the challenges he incurred keeping that EV pickup charged along the way.
As Ford Authority previously reported, Ford EV owners are expected to gain access to the Supercharger network this coming spring, though it’s unclear when they’ll receive the free NACS adapter. Eligibility for existing Mach-E and F-150 Lightning owners will be determined by VIN, with each of those customers receiving one adapter. Those customers will apparently secure their adapter via a reservation process, though the part will be free – Ford is even covering shipping costs.
Meanwhile, second-generation Ford EV models due to arrive starting in 2025 will come equipped with NACS ports from the factory, meaning that no adapter will be required to charge them at a Supercharger. Either way, owners of all-electric Ford models won’t need to utilize the Tesla app to access its charging network, however.
We’ll have more on Ford’s CCS to NACS adapter soon, so be sure and subscribe to Ford Authority for 24/7 Ford news coverage.
