Construction at the future Ford BlueOval City site in Tennessee officially began back in September 2022, and it’s already having a positive impact on the surrounding community, at least in terms of the number of jobs it’s set to add – not to mention a major infusion of infrastructure and other, unrelated investments. Production of an all-new, next-generation EV pickup dubbed “Project T3” is set to kick off at Ford BlueOval City in 2025, but in the meantime, FoMoCo is busy collecting funding for the massive new site, a large portion of which stems from a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) loan. Now, Ford BlueOval City is set to benefit from some additional funding projects, according to the Nashville Post.
That funding is set to come from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), which has announced that it will award $20.8 million of the $644.2 million it has slated to go to rural infrastructure projects to the state of Tennessee, with the largest portion of that money – a little more than $8 million, consisting of a $3.59 million loan and a $4.49 million grant – set aside for the city of Stanton, which is where BlueOval City will reside.
The intention of this funding is to beef up infrastructure in Stanton, which currently has a mere 700 residents, while BlueOval City is set to hire thousands more who could ultimately choose to move to the town. The USDA notes that some of these funds will go to improve water service near Ford’s future EV plant, as well as install a new water line for a future fire station and daycare center.
“Today’s investments will help rural utility districts and communities provide clean drinking water and sanitary wastewater systems for families and businesses in rural areas for years to come,” said USDA Tennessee state director Arlisa Armstrong.
